female viagra
When I made the decision to start this blog, I was so excited that I started writing immediately….
That was in August of last year (yes it took that long to go live).
This post is a result of that crazy energy!
The dates are not current but the information is certainly as relevant as ever!
Female Viagra?
August 18.A day to remember….
The day my husband celebrates his birthday…..
And as usual, I have been scrambling around for gift ideas for the last month.
Then it hits me! Somewhere in the recesses of my mind I remember something about a pink pill for women…..
You see, like Viagra for men, this pill, possibly is the new wonder drug for women. If I can get some, maybe I can give him a birthday to remember…. And I can have some fun too.
BONUS!!!!!
With my hectic work schedule, balancing the kids, and home, this could mean that we spend some much needed quality time together….
It’s a no-brainer.
And so the research begins….
On August 18 of last year the FDA approved a new sex drug called Flibanserin. This has been long awaited as the new ‘Viagra for women”. Finally, can all women breathe a sigh of relief? Is hope at hand? Can we say goodbye to the days of “not tonight honey ,I have a headache”. Do we instead say hello to, “just a second honey, let me take my pink pill and I will be your vixen”…..
Manufactured by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, this new pink pill(as opposed to the blue of Viagra) called ADDYI is set to make millions. So confident are Valeant Pharmaceuticals, a Canadian company, that just two days after the FDA announcement, on August 20, they acquired Sprout for a hefty 1 billion$.
For South Africans, approval by the American FDA does not mean automatic availability. The drug still needs to be cleared by our own MCC(medicine control council). With their current backlog, this may take years to happen…
In fact ,ADDYI failed to make it through the FDA’s rigorous approval process on two previous occasions.
ADDYI has been approved by the FDA for treatment of “hypoactive sexual desire disorder” defined as “low sexual desire that causes marked distress or interpersonal difficulty and is not due to a co-existing medical or psychiatric conditions, problems within the relationship, or the effects of a medication or other drug substance”
All sounds great!!
So what’s the down side?
So many …I made a list…
1.ADDYI has to be taken every day .It can’t just be taken when the need arises, like Viagra . Also, it can take upto 8 weeks to see the peak effect.
2 .A person on ADDYI can never drink alcohol. So Girls, DATE NIGHTS will have to be sober affairs .If mixed with alcohol, it can drop blood pressure and lead to fainting .A FUN WAY TO SPEND AN EVENING.
3 .For men, Viagra works almost 100% of the time. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis. ADDYI works more like an antidepressant .Studies show that while placebo results in 3.7 satisfying sexual events per month, ADDYI will result in 4.5 per month.
NOT EVEN ONE WHOLE EVENT!!!
IS IT WORTH TAKING A DRUG DAILY, WITH SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS, INDEFINITELY, JUST TO MARGINALLY BOOST LIBIDO?
I THINK NOT!!!!!!!
Female sexual desire is complex. It is dependent on so many things……how we feel about ourselves, how connected we are to our partners, and our daily stress levels and challenges. Testosterone hormone levels also play a role.
It is very difficult to feel sexy if all you’ve done for the day is survived the pressures of work, sorted out the kids squabbles, and argued with your husband about the rising electricity bills.
Change the setting to an island holiday , where you are pampered .Where you don’t have to worry about what to make for dinner and who will lift the kids to music lessons. Your libido is sure to make its appearance! Very frequently!
So did I gift my husband (and myself) some ADDYI for his birthday?
WE ENJOYED AN AMAZING WEEKEND AWAY INSTEAD!!!
